Nakasendō Hiking

Return of the Son of Weirdness, part II.

Here are some more interesting things I encountered on my hike from Tokyo to Kyoto.

A blue house with maybe around eight sides, and a conical roof.
Moomin characters and themes are ubiquitous in Japan. I’m not sure if this house was inspired by the Tove Jansson’s characters, but it sure looks like it!
A flag advertising an Hello Kitty-themed McCafé.
It is difficult to understand how pervasive Hello Kitty is in Japan. The character and her friends can be found on anything, from storage units, to McDonald’s, to luxury department store customer membership cards and much more.
A storage unit company called "Hello storage" that is branded with Hello Kitty.

(I also love the idea of a Delta Green operation where the agents are sent to Japan to investigate a left-over green box, that is in one of these storage units…)

A chaotic hand drawn menu with pictures, showing among other things a hamburger plate. It has been named "Humbug Steak" with an extra "r" half-inserted between the "u" and the "g".
I wouldn’t mind having a humbug steak, which I imagine is a sort of Christmas Carol-themed course.

I think “dust box” is an excellent name! In Swedish, a vacuum cleaner is quite literally called a “dust sucker”.
